Online fraud schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Fraudsters may use technology to impersonate banks and government authorities, create fake social media accounts, or fabricate information about banking products and services to gain customers’ trust, steal confidential information, or misappropriate their funds.

To proactively protect your assets and personal information, SeABank would like to alert our customers to the following three fraud schemes requiring particular attention:
1. Fake Banking Product and Policy Information:
Fraudsters may exploit social media platforms share fake information and images about the Bank’s deposit interest rates and benefits that do not reflect SeABank’s actual policies. They may then lure customers into installing unfamiliar applications, which can be used to access and misappropriate funds in customers’ accounts.
Warning signs:
2. Online Shopping Fraud:
Fraudsters may take advantage of social media platforms by advertising fake products or services and using fake accounts to gain customers’ trust. When customers show interest, they may be directed to chat groups where multiple fake accounts posing as other buyers are used to build trust and persuade them to make payments. Once payment is made, the fraudsters may cut off all communication and fail to deliver the goods or services.
Warning signs:
3. Impersonation of Government Authorities in Relation to Public Services and Property/Land Procedures:
Fraudsters may contact customers via Zalo or video calls, impersonating government officials or individuals claiming to provide guidance on public administrative procedures, such as integrating land-use certificates, notifying customers of land-related tax obligations, or assisting with other property and land procedures. Fraudsters may instruct customers to download unfamiliar applications, scan information from their Citizen Identity Cards, or enter account information through links from unknown or unverified sources. After customers follow these instructions, their devices may be compromised, and unauthorized transactions may subsequently be conducted through their bank accounts.
Warning signs:
How to Protect Yourself: To minimize the risk of fraud and asset misappropriation, SeABank recommends that customers:
✓ REMAIN VIGILANT when receiving calls from unfamiliar phone numbers claiming to be bank employees or government officials, as well as advertisements offering unusually high benefits or returns.
✓ VERIFY ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY and thoroughly check recipient details before making any fund transfer, especially when receiving transfer requests through voice calls or video calls via social media accounts.
✓ AVOID USING PERSONAL INFORMATION such as phone numbers, dates of birth, names, etc. as usernames or passwords for banking transaction applications.
✓ DO NOT CLICK on links requesting password changes, service reactivation, or service modifications when you have not initiated such requests. Do not access suspicious links or install applications from unofficial sources.
✓ ACTIVATE ACCOUNT ACTIVITY NOTIFICATIONS through the SeAMobile application or SMS services to promptly detect unusual transactions.
✓ NEVER DISCLOSE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION such as personal information, passwords, OTPs, card numbers, or card security codes (CVVs) to anyone, including individuals claiming to be bank employees.
