In response to the appeal raised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) to help coastal fishermen who lost boats, fishing- nets when fishing in the Paracel and Spratly islands settle and re-build fishing tools, the Southeast Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank – SeABank has donated VND 30 million to the program named “Fishing-nets For Fishermen in Paracel and Spratly Islands”.
The presence of fisherman at Paracel and Spratly fisheries, apart from its meaning of traditional livelihood for generations, also implies another deeper one that is to affirm the country’s sovereignty over the islands. SeABank participation in the VGCL’s campaign aimed at helping fishermen continue their settlements at the sea is derived from the sharing tradition, and also to encourage fishermen to continue affirming that the Paracel and Spratly islands are integral territories under sovereignty of Vietnam for thousand years. Whenever our fishermen still go out there for fishing, it means our sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly Island.
“Fishing- nets for fishermen in Paracel and Spratly Islands” is a remarkable activity aimed at helping fishermen to overcome difficulties and losses either caused by the environment or robberies, support them to buy boats and fishing-nets to maintain their resilience over the national sea territories. This meaningful campaign attracts participation of many domestic organizations and individuals towards the beloved Paracel and Spratly islands and contributes to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty over our sea and islands.
