Dear Our Esteemed Clients,
Recently, fraudsters have continuously changed their methods, adopting new and increasingly sophisticated tactics that make it difficult for customers to identify risks and easy to be exploited for asset appropriation. Therefore, SeABank urges customers to stay vigilant against schemes involving impersonated websites/fanpages of government agencies used to distribute malware.
Fraudsters create fake websites or fanpages - often with a counterfeit blue verification badge - posing as government authorities. These websites and fanpages typically duplicate almost all content and interface elements from legitimate sources. The domain names are usually altered with minor character changes or different domain extensions to mislead users.
Victims are often contacted by phone and informed that they need to update or integrate electronic identification via VNeID, social insurance information, personal income tax declarations, etc., and are sent a link through Zalo. These links are usually shortened URLs or QR codes to conceal the destination.
After accessing the link, victims are asked to grant device access permissions or install an application by downloading a file with the “.apk” extension. If users install the file or grant device permissions as prompted, their device becomes compromised and controlled by fraudsters. The criminals then use this access to steal banking information and conduct unauthorized online transactions on the victim’s accounts and cards.
To minimize the risk of falling victim to these scams, SeABank recommends that customers:
