“Simple actions today create miracles for future generations" has been the guiding spirit throughout the 10-year journey of “SeABankers for the Children” - a humanistic volunteer initiative initiated and carried out by employees of Southeast Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SeABank) since 2015.
10-year journey of connecting love
In 2015, the “SeABankers for the Children” program was first launched with the aim of bringing joy, moral support, and practical assistance to children in remote areas. Driven by this heartfelt aspiration, SeABankers has been gifting necessities and supplies directly to schools in underprivileged mountainous regions.
The shared love has grown stronger over time, as the program has become an annual event at the Bank, eagerly welcomed by all employees. By focusing on underprivileged children, orphans, children with disabilities, and those living in social protection centers, SOS villages, and shelters, the program aims to encourage learning, nurture dreams. In doing so, SeABank’s love and sense of social responsibility could be spread throughout the community.
After 10 years, “SeABankers for the Children” has expanded with a wider range of meaningful activities. These include awarding scholarships to disadvantaged students to encourage academic pursuit; building and renovating schools and classrooms, particularly in underprivileged and remote areas; gifting textbooks, notebooks, and school supplies; providing teaching equipment to social protection centers; building mini libraries; organizing charity kitchens to provide zero-cost meals; planting trees, and more. SeABank’s volunteer teams have left their ‘footprints of love’ in nearly 40 provinces and cities across the country, from lowlands to mountainous regions, from urban centers to remote areas where both living and learning conditions remain challenging.
Throughout this journey, more than 10,000 gift packages have been delivered, over 5,000 children have received scholarships and school supplies, more than 30 schools have been newly built, renovated, equipped with essential teaching tools. Tens of thousands of books, notebooks, warm clothes, blankets, shoes, and daily necessities have reached children in mountainous areas, thus empowering their educational journey. So far, the total funding for the program has exceeded VND4.5 billion - all voluntarily contributed by over 5,300 SeABank employees nationwide.
Unwavering dedication for the next generation
In provinces and cities where SeABank operates, each branch serves as a “love station” - connecting communities and spreading a culture of sharing. Annually, hundreds of SeABank staff voluntarily dedicate their time and effort to activities such as awarding scholarships, building schools, organizing children festivals, visiting and gifting orphans and children with disabilities, supporting with school facilities and infrastructure, etc. The volunteer journey of “SeABankers for the Children” has even reached regions beyond SeABank’s branch network, including Ha Giang, Son La, Lai Chau, and Dak Nong.
At every school SeABank visits, its presence always leaves a positive impression on teachers, students, and local people. In 2019, a visit took place in Pa Lau commune (Tram Tau District, Yen Bai Province) - one of the most underprivileged areas in the northern mountainous region, where residents relies heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods and educational conditions for children remain limited. Crossing a hundred-kilometer journey over rough roads, SeABank’s volunteer team reached the commune and delivered gifts to more than 170 children. Deeply moved by the compassion, Mr. Mua A Sung (Chairman of the People’s Committee of Pa Lau Commune) shared: “I’m truly touched by the goodwill of SeABank’s staff. Despite remote location and harsh weather, the team made great effort to come and directly deliver gifts to our children. It is a precious and meaningful act of sharing that we deeply appreciate”.
Notably, 2024 and 2025 mark a meaningful step forward for the program with the introduction of “Cooking for Children – Zero-cost buffet” initiative. Over 400 nutritious meals were prepared by SeABank employees and served to children at Chieu Yen Primary School (Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province). At Chi Diem School (Tan Thanh Commune, Mai Chau District, Hoa Binh Province), the initiative also received enthusiastic participation from the students. “I wish we could have this once a week. This is the first time I’ve ever had a buffet” - a fourth grader named Mai Anh shyly shared while holding her teacher’s hand.
In addition, 2025 marks a meaningful milestone in SeABank’s ongoing journey of spreading love and nurturing dreams of Vietnamese children, as it celebrates a decade of establishment of the “Dream Nursing” Study Encouragement Fund (2015). Over the past 10 years, the Fund has supported 209 underprivileged yet studious students on their educational journey by providing monthly scholarships of VND1 million until high school graduation. Starting in 2025, this amount will be increased to VND1.5 million per month. Until now, the Fund has contributed nearly VND13 billion for purpose of empowering and nurturing the dreams of Vietnamese children. Beyond financial support, each scholarship represents encouragement and a symbolic hand-holding filled with trust and care from SeABank employees - who always willing to share and stand by the children. So far, 59 students of the Fund have graduated from high school, many of whom continuing their academic journeys at universities and colleges, opening doors to dreams that once seemed out of reach.
Besides spreading love to the community, the spirit of “For the Children” is nurtured within the SeABank family. Every year, SeABank organizes a variety of activities for employees’ children, such as gift-giving on International Children’s Day and Lunar New Year, art contests and storytelling competitions, etc. Such activities offer children valuable opportunities for holistic development, closely tied to their parents’ 'second home'. These efforts, therefore, helped to shape a confident and dynamic generation of young SeABankers, while reflecting the Bank’s deep care for the well-being of its employees and their families.
It is observable that over the past decade, ‘SeABankers for the Children’ has not only made lasting impacts on the community, but has also become a vital part of SeABank’s corporate culture that values social responsibility, love and compassion with a commitment to sustainable development. Ms. Le Thu Thuy (Vice Chairwoman of SeABank’s BOD) shared: “We have always believed that the true value of an organization lies not only in its business performancce, but also in its contributions to society. ‘SeABankers for the Children’ is a clear reflection of that belief. We would remain committed to continuing our charitable journey and bringing a brighter future to more Vietnamese children”.
